Creative Journalling for Transformation: Protection, Resilience & Flow

It’s been a while since I last sat down to share my creative journalling process, and today felt like the perfect moment to pause, breathe, and reconnect.
The energy swirling around us right now is powerful, messy, and full of possibility.
What better way to work with it than to bring it to the page?
Anchoring into the Energy of the Blackthorn
As I journalled, I found myself inspired by the sloe bush (blackthorn) nearby — a tree that carries the energy of protection, resilience, and transformation.
Those three words shaped the heart of this practice.
Just as the blackthorn endures and transforms through the seasons, we too are invited to lean into our strength and embrace change.
Old Stories & New Transformations
One of the big questions I sat with was: What old stories am I still telling myself?
These stories often whisper: “This is too difficult,” or “I don’t have what I need.”
But when I slow down, I remember: I do have what I need.
We all do.
Transformation begins when we let go of the outdated stories and trust the tools we’ve already gathered along the way.
Astrology as a Mirror
I’m not an astrologer, but I love noticing how planetary movements mirror our inner shifts.
Right now, Saturn retrograde in Pisces and the Moon moving from Capricorn into Aquarius feel especially significant.
Capricorn reminds us of the work we do in the world, while Aquarius invites us to step outside the box, think differently, and embrace authenticity.
Together, they echo the messy but beautiful dance of transformation.
The Messy Middle
Creative journalling often takes us into what I call the “messy middle” — that uncomfortable space between what was and what is becoming.
It’s the part of transformation that feels uncertain and chaotic.
But here’s the truth: growth happens in the mess.
When we allow ourselves to play with colour, words, and marks on the page, we loosen the grip of fear and welcome flow, joy, and compassion.
Dusting Off Your Creative Toolbox
This practice also reminded me of the importance of revisiting our creative toolbox.
Whether it’s Cosmic Smashbooking, painting, or simply journalling with pen and paper — we all carry tools that support our soul work.
Sometimes they’re hidden, rusty, or forgotten at the bottom of the basket.
Transformation asks us to tip that basket out, clear the cobwebs, and rediscover what’s already ours.
A Gentle Invitation
If you’re reading this, I invite you to take a moment and journal on these three prompts:
✍️ What old stories are you ready to release?
✍️ Which forgotten tools in your creative basket want to be rediscovered?
✍️ What do you want to wrap yourself in — compassion, joy, resilience, creativity — during this time of transformation?
Remember, transformation doesn’t come from giant leaps.
It comes from one small step at a time, circling back when needed, and trusting the process.
So gather your colours, breathe deeply, and let your hands get a little messy.
The page is waiting for you.
